Shore excursions offering sightseeing tours in Motril from the port.
Motril is the most significant town on the Costa Tropical in the province of Granada, boasting over 60,000 residents, making it the second largest location in the province after Granada itself. Its prominent port features ferries to North Africa and regularly accommodates several cruise ships. The modern town of Motril is known for its spacious streets and the range of amenities typical of a large population. Yet, it retains an undeniable charm and beauty. Nestled at the base of the Sierra de Lújar and surrounded by the fertile plains at the mouth of the Guadalfeo River, its pristine beaches, exotic landscapes, and mountainous hideaways create a serene retreat from the outside world, contributing to its unique allure.
King Baudouin of Belgium was captivated by the area and built his summer residence here. In the 19th century, Motril gained considerable prestige with the rise of sugar cane production, but the economic downturn in the 20th century led to the closure of all its sugar factories. Nonetheless, remnants of its rich history can still be seen throughout the town, continuing to form an integral part of its cultural heritage.
