Ronda is one of Spain's oldest towns, with roots tracing back to the Neolithic era, and remnants of that ancient period can still be seen today.
Despite attracting thousands of tourists each year, particularly to its historic district, the town has managed to maintain much of its original charm. Ronda is particularly renowned for its breathtaking views of the majestic El Tajo gorge. Visitors flock to the 18th-century Puente Nuevo, or 'New Bridge,' which elegantly spans the incredible 100-meter drop beneath.
The promenade that winds around the gorge offers spectacular vistas of the Serranía de Ronda mountains. Ronda's rich history is marked by influences from both the Romans and Moors, and it was one of the last Moorish strongholds to succumb to the Spanish Conquistadors.
Additionally, the town boasts a variety of remarkable historical sites that draw visitors from across the globe. Among them, the Plaza de Toros, or Bullring, stands out as a significant landmark.
This bullring holds the distinction of being the oldest in all of Spain, where the tradition of bullfighting originated. While it now functions as a museum, it continues to host bullfights during Ronda’s festivities.
