Ronda is among the oldest towns in Spain, with origins tracing back to the Neolithic era, and remnants from that time can still be observed today.
Despite the influx of thousands of tourists each year, the town retains much of its original charm, particularly in its old quarter. Ronda is renowned for its breathtaking views of the deep gorge known as El Tajo. Visitors flock to the 18th-century Puente Nuevo, or "New Bridge," which elegantly spans a staggering 100-meter drop.
The scenic promenade that skirts the gorge offers magnificent vistas of the Serranía de Ronda mountains. Ronda's captivating history includes influences from both the Romans and Moors, and it was one of the final Moorish strongholds to capitulate to the Spanish Conquistadors.
Moreover, the town boasts a wealth of remarkable historical sites that attract visitors from around the globe. Among these, the Plaza de Toros, or Bullring, stands out as one of Ronda's most significant landmarks.
This particular bullring is the oldest of its kind in Spain, recognized as the birthplace of bullfighting. Although it now serves as a museum, it continues to host bullfights during Ronda's festive celebrations.
