Embark on a captivating 240 km day trip to Granada, where we will explore the renowned Alhambra Palace and its magnificent courtyards, originally constructed for the last Moorish Emirs of Spain during the illustrious Nasrid dynasty.
Following the Christian reconquest led by the Catholic Monarchs, Isabella and Ferdinand in 1492, certain sections of the Alhambra were appropriated by the Christian monarchy.
In 1527, their grandson Charles V, the Holy Roman Emperor who governed much of Europe, commissioned the construction of a palace that seamlessly integrated with the Alhambra and the ancient fortifications of the Nasrid Palaces.
Unfortunately, for centuries the Alhambra fell into neglect and suffered severe damage at the hands of Napoleon's troops. It wasn't until the 19th century that the Alhambra was rediscovered by European and American scholars and travelers, notably Washington Irving, who penned his novel "Tales of the Alhambra" while there.
Today, the Alhambra Palace stands as Spain's most popular tourist destination, showcasing over 700 years of Moorish rule and its most remarkable Islamic architecture, regarded as one of the most impressive constructions outside the Islamic world.
Additionally, the Alhambra is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has inspired a wealth of songs, dances, and stories.
