Information about Granada and the Alhambra Palace

Embark on a captivating 200 km day trip to Granada, where we will explore the stunning Alhambra Palace and its enchanting courtyards, originally built for the last Moorish Emirs of Spain, representing the ruling Nasrid dynasty.

Following the Christian reconquest by the Catholic Monarchs, Isabella and Ferdinand, in 1492, certain sections of the Alhambra were repurposed for the Christian Monarchy.

In 1527, their grandson, Charles V, who was the Holy Roman Emperor governing much of Europe, constructed a palace that was integrated into the Alhambra, nestled within the ancient fortifications of the Nasrid Palaces.

Unfortunately, for centuries, the Alhambra fell into neglect and suffered significant damage from Napoleon's troops. It wasn't until the 19th century that the palace was rediscovered by European and American scholars and travelers, notably Washington Irving, who penned his celebrated novel, "Tales of the Alhambra," during his visit.

Today, the Alhambra Palace stands as Spain's most beloved tourist destination, showcasing the rich legacy of Moorish rule that lasted over 700 years, along with its breathtaking and renowned Islamic architecture—truly the most remarkable structure outside the Islamic world.

Additionally, the Alhambra is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has served as an inspiration for numerous songs, dances, and stories alike.
