Cordoba was once one of the most magnificent cities of the medieval era, even rivaling Constantinople with its remarkable palaces and mosques – the most magnificent of which, the Mezquita, remains one of Europe’s true wonders. Today, the city is smaller than its Andalusian counterparts like Granada and Seville, which lends it an undeniable charm and allure.
The main attractions are conveniently within walking distance, allowing visitors to stroll through the picturesque squares of the old town and navigate the narrow alleys of the historic Jewish quarter. Cordoba is famous for its diverse array of tapas bars, where locals and tourists alike mingle in a vibrant atmosphere. While summers can be sweltering, Cordoba's climate is most delightful during autumn and spring.
The Mezquita (Mosque) stands as the city's most significant landmark, where, following the Christian reconquest of Andalusia, an unusually open-plan Renaissance cathedral was constructed within the mosque’s center. The Roman Bridge spanning the Guadalquivir River provides an excellent vantage point to admire the stunning views of medieval Cordoba.
